When puppies are born, unlike human babies, their eyes are sealed shut and their ears are closed, looking almost like someone squished them shut on the underside, while the outer side has hardly a hair on the thick leathers of the ear flaps

It is important for the puppies to begin experiencing different textures, even at a young age. I like to gently introduce this by altering the type of material they are on in their "whelping" pool.

We are so happy to have friends of all ages groups come and visit and love on our pups, and others who have us to their homes for dinner parties or just a get together with puppies and big dogs in tow.

My band mate has a beautiful piece of land with a charming house right on the river on Sauvie Island outside of Portland.

My aunt and uncle have a lovely home on wetland property that has been in the family for generations. My mother was house and dog sitting for them and the kids, pups, Greta and I went to visit

The pups are born with long tails. As per the U.S. Breed standard their tails are docked and their dew claws are removed.

As this was a Cesarian birth I wondered if it would be harder for the babies to nurse. Would they take to it, the way a natural birth baby would?

Welcome

Tave with a puppy

This is my sixth year as a breeder of the Cadbury line of standard poodles. I operate from my home in Portland, Oregon.

The 2009 litter has all been sold to wonderful families and individuals. Two of them will be social service dogs while another two will do volunteer therapy work. They were all "show average" or better and it is my hope that a couple of them will compete in the conformation ring, while others will do obedience and agility work with their owners for fun, and maybe even for titles.

I intend to breed our Can CH Cadbury's The Garbo Mystique in the spring of 2010 after her progesterone levels are completely evaluated this fall. I'm still in the process of choosing a stud dog for that breeding. Anyone interested in being put in a hold queue for that litter should email me and follow up with a phone call. When puppies are born, I will take deposits and hold forms from all interested parties, in the order that they were placed in the queue.

Please check the "Current Litter" page for up-to-date information about the current litter. See the "Breeding" and "My System" pages for details on the genetics, testing, care, and socialization that make these Cadbury standard poodles so special.

If you're interested, you can find out all the details of previous litters on the "Past Litters" page.

"Our busy lives can easily grow insensitive to the wonders of life, leaving us spiritually impoverished and unhappy. This is perhaps why animals (particularly our dogs) are so important to us and why we benefit from their companionship: they root us in life."
