my system

My system for breeding Cadbury Standard Poodles involves much more than selecting a sire and dam for each litter. Each of the following aspects is critical to achieving a good result.

Health and Nutrition

For the first eight weeks of their lives, from the day they are whelped, the puppies live in the house with my family and me. This entails a lot of extra work, but it ensures that their environment is clean and comfortable. They have regular visits to the vet and are transitioned to a high quality dog food at around four weeks.   more >>

Socialization and Training

The puppies have an extraordinary degree of socialization in their first eight weeks which makes the transition to their permanent home extremely easy. Besides lots of loving handling by friends and family members, the puppies learn from a systematic exposure to a wide variety of environments. They also begin to learn basic commands and are nearly all fully potty-trained at eight weeks. See the "Socialization" page for more on this.  more >>

Placement

I take great care to screen prospective buyers both in order to protect puppies from unscrupulous breeders and order to place each puppy in the environment that best suits its temperament and anticipated form. See the "Placement" page for more on this as well as information on my policies for hold deposits and co-ownership agreements for buyers planning to breed.  more >>

Help for New Owners

Cadbury Standard Poodles tend to adjust very quickly to life with their new owners. They are very intelligent and easy to train. I do everything possible to help new owners with any questions that may arise. I've compiled a lot of this information on the "For New Owners" page, but I'm also always happy to consult by phone or email.
